Every child deserves to feel safe, cared for, and included — no matter where they come from or what their story is.
That’s the heart of National Child Day, celebrated each year on November 20 across Canada. It’s a day to honour the rights of children and youth, and to remind all of us — families, caregivers, and communities — that we each have a role to play in protecting those rights.
At Satori Foster, every day is about turning those values into action.
What National Child Day Represents
National Child Day celebrates two key United Nations documents:
- The Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959)
- The Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989)
These principles affirm that every child has the right to safety, education, play, belonging, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
When we create safe and loving homes, provide stability, and help children heal and grow, we’re protecting those very rights.
Why Belonging Matters
Children in care often come from situations where safety and consistency were uncertain. Belonging isn’t just about being housed — it’s about being seen, heard, and valued.
Foster families play a vital role in creating that sense of belonging. They show children that no matter what they’ve been through, they deserve care and connection.
A Shared Responsibility
Creating safe, inclusive environments isn’t the job of one family or one agency — it’s something we build together as communities.
From respite care and mentorship to supporting local initiatives, there are many ways to contribute to a child’s sense of security and hope.
When we show up collectively, we remind every child: you matter, and you belong.

Together, We Make a Difference
