Foster Care Providers are temporary caregivers for children and teens who are unable to reside with family. This may be due to various reasons such as parent mental health, addictions, intimate partner/domestic violence, illness, abuse or protection and safety concerns.
Foster Care Providers support the day-to-day needs of young people and provide stability and safety, something that every young person needs to thrive and heal. Foster Care Providers are creative, caring and compassionate individuals who can offer and commit to unconditional support, guidance, love and nurturing.
Many people do not know that there are two options when becoming a foster care provider. You can foster with your local Child Welfare Agency (CAS/F&CS) OR you can foster with a Private Agency. Satori is a Private Foster Care Agency.
Private Foster Care Agencies have the same requirements as Public Child Welfare Agencies and are licensed in the same way, by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. There are pros and cons to both; at the end of the day, it is important to find an agency that fits best with you. Private Foster Care Agencies however tend to be smaller agencies which in turn can see less staff turnover and more continuity of care. Private Foster Care Agencies also tend to offer a more family-like feel. Smaller teams mean more opportunities to get to know everyone and for them to know you. Compensation and reimbursements also tend to be more flexible and individualized in Private Agencies. Per Diems and expense coverage are often higher with Private Agencies.
