Summer Activities For Your Foster Child

The summer is the perfect opportunity to get to know your foster child, while providing them with activities they probably never had the chance to experience.   While the activities that you plan depends on the age of the child, the following activities are generally fun for all ages.

Spend a Day at the Beach

Who doesn’t like to spend some time with their toes in the sand? Pack a picnic, towels and chairs and spend a day building sandcastles while soaking up some sunshine. Walk along a boardwalk, visit local shops and indulge in some ice-cream! There are many local beaches within a 2-hour drive – get out and explore!

Go Camping

You don’t have to go backpacking and rough it in the wilderness to appreciate the life skills that camping can teach someone young. No matter the age, it’s super fun to pitch a tent, start a fire and roast some marshmallows. There are usually lots of other children or kids running around too, which is an opportunity to make new friends!

Explore Your Own City

Show your foster child around your city! Perhaps they will come to love the area, helping them feel more comfortable in their surroundings. Use this opportunity to teach them about the history of certain buildings or simply show them where you’re favourite spot in the city is. There is plenty of fun to be found right around you!

Go on a Road Trip

Pack up the car and head out, even on a day trip! Niagara Falls is the perfect place to kill several hours and super fun for kids of all ages. Hop on the highway and head to Toronto for a baseball game. There is so much to learn right here in Ontario and so many different places to explore within driving distance.

You have the ability to show your foster child new things that they never had the chance to experience. Children benefit from a summer of exploration!
